ICANN hereby grants Registrar a limited waiver from compliance with certain provisions of the 2013 RAA on the following terms:

ICANN agrees that, following Registrar’s execution of the 2013 RAA:

(a) For purposes of assessing Registrar’s compliance with the data retention requirement of Paragraph 1.1 of the Data Retention Specification in the 2013 RAA, the period of “two additional years” in Paragraph 1.1 of the Data Retention Specification will be deemed modified to “one additional year”; and

(b) For purposes of assessing Registrar’s compliance with the data retention requirement of Paragraph 1.2 of the Data Retention Specification in the 2013 RAA, the period of “one hundred and eighty (180) days” in Paragraph 1.2 of the Data Retention Specification will be deemed modified to “ninety (90) days.”

The waiver granted to Registrar applies only to the post-sponsorship period of retention of the data listed in the Paragraphs 1.1.1 through 1.1.8 and Paragraphs 1.2.1 through 1.2.3 inclusive of the Data Retention Specification, and it does not constitute a waiver of any other provisions of the 2013 RAA or other ICANN policies applicable to registrars. Without limiting the foregoing, nothing in this waiver limits Registrar’s obligation to comply with Consensus Policies or Temporary Policies developed and adopted in accordance with ICANN’s Bylaws (“ICANN Policies”) or limits Registrar’s obligation to comply with any amendment, supplement or modification of the 2013 RAA approved and adopted in accordance with the terms of the 2013 RAA (“RAA Amendments”). In the event of any inconsistency between this waiver and the terms of any ICANN Policy or RAA Amendment, the terms of the ICANN Policy or RAA Amendment will control.

The waiver granted to Registrar shall remain in effect for the duration of the term of the 2013 RAA signed by Registrar.

You can read the announcement after the jump :

“Nominet, the company best known for running the .uk internet infrastructure, today announces the shortlist of entries for the Nominet Internet Awards 2014.

The Nominet Internet Awards (NIA), now in their eighth year, celebrate the UK internet as a force for good and showcase the very best Britain has to offer online. After receiving many strong entries, a shortlist of 36 organisations and initiatives has been selected to contest the five categories, which include Innovative Internet Business, Online Skills and Training, Making the Internet a Safer Place, Doing Good Online and Digital Innovation in Public Services. Members of the public and businesses can show their support for the shortlisted projects and organisations by tweeting the hashtag #NIA2014 alongside the name of the project they hope to win in each category.

The annual awards are open to any organisation or individual who is doing great work online, whether it benefits their business, the wider economy, local communities or the UK’s internet users in general. This year’s entries include a project to help mums gets to grips with technology, a virtual hospital for dementia sufferers, a price comparison site for the energy market and an interactive school guide for parents.

A panel of experts, including Eben Upton, the Founder of Raspberry Pi and Chi Onwurah, MP & Shadow Cyber Security Minister, will select the winners, who will be announced at an awards ceremony on Thursday 3rd July at the London Film Museum, hosted by technology journalist Kate Russell.

This year has been a seminal year for the web. Among other milestones and achievements, we’ve celebrated the 25th anniversary of the academic paper by Tim Berners-Lee that served as the blueprint for the modern web, the UK’s digital business hub Tech City has hit its third birthday, and the number of British people aged 65 and over accessing the internet has risen by more than a quarter.

Eleanor Bradley, Chief Operating Officer at Nominet, says: “Every year it seems the internet becomes even more a part of our everyday lives, so it’s a great pleasure to see that the UK remains a source for so many fresh, ground-breaking online ideas. The efforts made by the shortlisted organisations to help make the internet a safer, more enjoyable or more productive place should be celebrated. We’re proud to recognise those who’ve helped make the internet a better place for us all, and hope their achievements inspire further innovation in the UK in the years ahead.”

Register A Discounted .BERLIN Domain By 20 June To Win An iPad Mini

The new gTLD .berlin got off to a flying start and is ready to pass the 70,000 registrations mark any day, or hour, now. To celebrate dotBERLIN has announced a special promotional campaign where from 16 to 20 June, .berlin domains will cost a maximum of €5.55 at selected registrars including EuroDNS.

In addition, five lucky registrants during the promotional period will win an Apple iPad mini 32GB WIFI. The winners will be drawn on 27 June 2014.

The promotion is already proving a success, as this morning European time there were around 50,000 registrations, but as of 14:00 CET, there were an extra 20,000 registrations meaning there are almost 70,000 registrations. [UPDATE: As of 16:00 CET there were 80,000 registrations!]

“We are very pleased with the development of registrations of .berlin domains so far and want to thank Berliners for that,” commented Dirk Krischenowski, founder and CEO of dotBERLIN. “Many attractive names are still available under .berlin, which enable a more intuitive communication of offerings for Berlin and Berliners.”

Many of the previously registered .berlin domains are already being used by their owners for their active online communication, such as the crowdfunding festival One Spark with onespark.berlin. In keeping with the ongoing World Cup, the World Cup Living Room (WM-Wohnzimmer) has been furnished in the stadium An der Alten Försterei and is being communicated throughout Berlin with large posters with the perfectly intuitive web address wm-wohnzimmer.berlin.

Overall .berlin sits fourth on the nTLDstats.com list of new gTLDs. The controversial allocation of .xyz domains by Network Solutions to their .com registrants has pushed registrations to 117,000. 99,000 of these “registrations” were allocated by Network Solutions, meaning it is possible there are less than 20,000 genuine registrations.

Second is now .berlin with 80,000 registrations, then .club with 71,500 registrations and then .guru with 62,000 registrations. Overall there are 1.1 million registrations across the 302 new gTLDs that have been delegated.

Starting Dot, Minds+Machines and dotimmobilie are the three rivals that have withdrawn their applications for .immo new gTLD.Starting Dot applied for a Community Priority Evaluation in order to avoid an auction with the other companies. However, the company failed to score enough points .

Immo is the short version of “immobilien”,which means “Real Estate” in German. The new gTLD will compete against .immobilien, which is delegated to Rightside and already has 5,223 registrations.

Donuts has also revealed recently that its bill for all the new gTLD auctions has come to $50 million so far.
