.CO.COM Releases Tens-of-Thousands Premium Domain Names
The registry behind .co.com domains has released tens of thousands of premium domains for what they describe as “hand-registration”. But the registry believes that while the domains are far more valuable than the standard registration fee, getting them into the hands of those who would develop them will raise the sub-domain’s visibility and awareness and generate even stronger registration volumes.
Despite the number of early-bird registrations, there are still thousands of ultra premium .co.com domains left on the table to pick up during the Landrush phase. Also note that the .co.com Landrush is a little different to other new gTLDs because there are no auctions – any name available can be registered on a first-come, first-served basis. Many of the names being released have existing traffic, but are best monetised through development or sold to a retail buyer (who will then develop a website). Some of the domains we are releasing are amongst the top 500 public name sales of all time.
Here is a small sample of names that can be hand-registered now:
- Beef.co.com (Beef.com sold for $150,000)
- Best.co.com (Best.com sold for $331,561)
- Biking.co.com (Biking.com sold for $250,000)
- Billionaire.co.com (Billionaire.com sold for $215,000)
- DVDs.co.com (DVDs.co.uk sold for £35,000 GBP)
- Farm.co.com (Farm.com sold for $200,000)
- Flying.co.com (Flying.com sold for $1.1 million)
- Guns.co.com (Guns.co.uk sold for £5,000 GBP)
- Jets.co.com (Jets.com sold for $375,000)
- PatentLawyer.co.com (PatentAttorney.com sold for $40,000)
- Payments.co.com (Payments.co.uk sold for £10,000 GBP)
- PetSupplies.co.com (PetSupplies.com sold for $75,000)
- Planes.co.com (PlaneSales.com sold for $19,750)
- Rebates.co.com (Rebates.com sold for $500,000)
- Seniors.co.com (Seniors.com sold for $1.8 million)
- Show.co.com (Shows.com sold for $102,000)
- Social.co.com (Social.com sold for $2.6 million)
- Xmas.co.com (Xmas.com sold for $294,200)
…and tens of thousand more.

In coming days, there will be a significant adjustment to the remaining premium domain name pricing as well. Many of those with traffic will likely to be cash-flow positive in year-one if simply Parked. If developed, of course, the potential is even greater. How do we know? We are seeing the traffic now, and have historical data going back for years. In the coming weeks we plan to make traffic data for specific domain names available publicly, so you can see for yourself. General Availability starts on July 8th.

Final “Mitigating the Risk of DNS Namespace Collisions Phase One” Report Published
ICANN today announced the publication of the final “Mitigating the Risk of DNS Namespace Collisions Phase One” report by JAS Global Advisors (“JAS”).
The JAS study, which was commissioned by ICANN, provides a set of recommendations that describe a comprehensive approach to reducing current and future DNS namespace collisions, alerting operators of potential DNS namespace related issues, and providing emergency response capabilities in the event that critical (e.g., life safety) systems are adversely impacted. The final Phase One report takes into consideration feedback received during the public comment period that closed on 21 April 2014.
The JAS report, along with additional community feedback and other pertinent data, will be considered prior to providing the ICANN Board New gTLD Program Committee with a proposal to address name collisions for new gTLDs as part of the New gTLD Collision Occurrence Management Plan adopted on 7 October 2013, please visit https://features.icann.org/new-gtld-collision-occurrence-management. A session to discuss this proposal and collect feedback from the community will be held at the ICANN meeting in London on 23 June 2015 at 17:00-18:30 local time. Schedules are subject to change, so please visit http://london50.icann.org/en/schedule-full for the most updated information. Additional information on name collisions, including resources for IT professionals, can be found at https://www.icann.org/resources/pages/name-collision-2013-12-06-en.

Afnic Selects Etrecom & Dufresne Corrigan Scarlett to Promote the .FR TLD
Afnic, the company behind .FR extension, announced that it has selected the tandem of Entrecom and Dufresne Corrigan Scarlett to promote the .FR TLD.
You can read the announcement after the jump:
“After a competitive-dialogue procurement procedure, the tandem of Entrecom and Dufresne Corrigan Scarlett has been selected by Afnic to promote the .fr TLD
After a competitive-dialogue procurement procedure, the tandem of Entrecom and Dufresne Corrigan Scarlett has been selected by Afnic (the French acronym for the French Network Information Centre) to ensure the promotion of the “.fr” TLD.
Afnic has chosen to invest in a new digital strategy, and a creative, positive, off-beat approach. The goal is to make the .fr TLD an attractive namespace serving as a benchmark, especially for young people and entrepreneurs.
For Julien Naillet, Afnic Communications Director, “.fr domain names inspire trust because they include semantic and geographical indicators in their DNA. They are also a great way of promoting French expertise among our compatriots and foreign users. We want to offer a signature that means something, backed by a wealth of past experience and ready to face the future challenges of tomorrow’s Internet.”
Check out EuroDNS here to register your .FR domain name.
