ICANN Announces New Meetings During 2016 and 2018
Following the increased demands for a higher frequency of meetings, ICANN has decided to ask for availability from possible hosts for the time period of June 2016 to October 2018.
The meetings will be organized by a pattern which will be different each time, according to the strategy that was decided by ICANN’s Board in November last year. There will be a total number of three meetings, called Meeting A, Meeting B and Meeting C.
The announce is motivated by the over-scheduling of agendas and the lower possibility of interaction between communities. There is also a decrease of 25 percent being offered for the last two meetings every year in case of the proposals that will be accepted.
The events are expected to take place all across Latin and North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.
Auction Results for .PING and .SRL Strings
Dispute between applicants for .PING and .SRL strings had to be solved by an authorized auction provider, since they could not come to an agreement amiably. This is the last measure ICANN can take according to Module 4 contained in the Program Applicant Guidebook. Thus, the winner of the auction who meets all the requirements in order to be eligible, is entitled to sign a Registry Agreement for gTLD operation.
In case of .PING, the participant who won was Ping Registry Provider, Inc, who will pay $1.501.000 and the .SRL string was allocated to mySRL GmbH for the sum of $400.000. The next step is a decision from ICANN’s Board of Directors who is expected to produce a plan for the use of funds after the community is consulted.
Other auctions are expected to be resorted to every month during the rest of 2015.
NiRA’s Vice President Kicks Against Hosting .NG Domains Overseas
The Vice President of the Nigeria Internet Registration Associtation (NiRA), Mohammed Rudman, has recently kicked against the hosting of .NG domains overseas.
You can see the press release after the jump :
“The Vice President, Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA), Mr. Mohammed Rudman, has kicked against the hosting of .NG, which is the country’s domain name by both local and international registrars abroad because of the huge capital flight associated with it and the security challenge that it poses to the country.
Government, Rudman said, must urgently do everything possible to stop and address the hosting of the country’s domain name which, according to him, is one of Nigeria’s economic resources abroad.
According to him, Nigeria loses huge monies in the form of capital flight because almost all the domain names that are registered are actually hosted outside the country.
Huge amounts of money as capital flight are moving out of this country for the payment of that hosting, he said.”
