ICANN Quarterly Stakeholder Report – Register for the FY15 Q4 Call on 20 August 2015
ICANN has announced its FY15 Q4 Stakeholder Call, which will take place on 20 August at 14:00 UTC. The call will cover how ICANN has progressed against its strategic and operating plans for the Quarter ending 30 June 2015.

.RU Domain Name Registrations Pass the 4.9 Million Mark
According to the Coordination Center for TLD RU / .РФ , .RU domain name registrations has reached and exceeded the 4.9 million mark.
At the time of writing this article, there are 4.900,879 .RU domain name registrations..RU currently holds the 6th position in list of biggest ccTLD’s after .DE , .TK , .UK , .CN and .NL. .RU is also a leader in terms of growth rates among the biggest ccTLDs.
The fourth million .RU domain name was registered on 17 September 2012, while the third million .RU domain name was registered registered on the night of 24/25 September 2010.

Improvement on LGRs From ICANN
Latest checks during the program which tests the new domains from ICANN have revealed that there is an increased frequency of IDN tables requests and they vary in point of characters, rules of contexts and also format.
In order to solve this problem and at the suggestion of the users, ICANN technicians came with the idea of developing reference IDN tables in a format which can be read, known as Label Generation Rulesets (or simply LGRs), designed to help evaluate the Registry Service and the stability of the newest gTLDS.
They have also suggested a way of ensuring linguistic and also technical help from the users for the tables and comments and opinions are expected to show how effective they are so that future improvements can be made.
Debate Over .Hotels and .HoteIS Controversy Still Unsolved
A new debate has risen about the confusion between .HOTELS and .HOTEIS gTLDs according to a study which indicates that neither one should be allowed by ICANN.
The Independent Review Process suggested that the two names appear to be too similar and can be easily be confused and therefore ICANN could be required to pay the sum of about $163.000 for the panel.
Independent reviews from the specialists such as Kieren McCarthy show that ICANN obtained a temporary victory in what is seen as a mechanism which only supports the decisions that ICANN takes, no matter if they are adequate or not.
On the other hand, both names have their legitimity since “Hotels” is translated as “Hoteis” in Portuguese, even if they can be easily confused if the latter is written with a capital “I”.
