ICM Registry Sells Tube.XXX and Tubes.XXX for $750,000

ICM Registry, the company behind .XXX domain, announced recently that JT, Chairman of Really Useful and formerly a founding member of YouPorn.com has acquired Tube.XXX and Tubes.xxx for $750,000.

JT has a really impressive collection of .XXX domain names, including Erotic.xxx, Casting.ccc, Mature.xxx, Teen.xxx and Czech.xxx.Some of the domain names he acquired are already live and others are sceduled to launch this year.

“I have been working on a hybrid tube model for some time and buying tube.xxx and tubes.xxx was a no brainer.  I chose to launch with an .XXX domain over a .com due to the impressive stats on our existing .XXX sites as compared directly to our .com equivalents. I have also been studying the results that other major players in the industry are achieving with their .XXX sites, specifically the prominent rankings of .XXX domains within Google search results. Tube.xxx will contain our own exclusive content and offer the visitors a network pass to both our “sensual” and “fake” genres and brands. These brands are some of the strongest in the industry,” said JT.

“We produce over 150 new scenes a month which are specifically designed with the tube user in mind. Every tube clip we release is the best possible representation of the brand and our success has been greatly enhanced by joining the content partner programs of the world’s biggest tubes,” he added.

“The last two years have allowed the real benefits of .XXX to be proven; we are delighted that sophisticated operators such as JT and the Really Useful team, who were early .XXX adopters, have studied the real world performance of .XXX domains and keep returning to the table to invest again heavily in the space. The business model for Tube.xxx is solid and based on JT’s unrivaled experience, we are confident it will generate high traffic and revenues.” Steve added, “We were in discussions with several prominent companies over the last few weeks for many of our remaining premium .XXX domains; the demand is high. We decided to award JT these highly coveted domains not only because of the attractive price tag he offered but also because he was ready, able and eager to launch websites with unique content for these brands using the .XXX TLD,” commented Steve Wynyard, Vice President of ICM Registry.

Congrtulations to the buyer.

Verisign: Interest in Bitcoin Reflected by Domain Registrations

Bitcoin, the crypto-currency that has captured the imaginations of technologists and economists around the world, has received a considerable amount of attention over the past couple of weeks.

Recently we have seen how domain name registrations tend to surge in the immediate aftermath of global phenomena. The rise of Bitcoin also presents an opportunity to track global interest and investment by way of .com and.net domain name registrations.

The value of a Bitcoin surged from roughly $13 at the beginning of 2013 to an eventual high of $1,137 at the end of November (The chart below, courtesy of Coinbase, documents the ebbs and flows of a Bitcoin’s value).

Using the grapher tool in Verisign Domainview, we can track how often a particular keyword appears in .com and .net domain registrations over a period of time – a useful tool for identifying trends and gauging interest in subjects.

By doing a search of the word “bitcoin” for the past six months, it is fairly easy to see a correlation between the two Bitcoin price surges shown above and surges in domain name registrations including the term “bitcoin” in the grapher results below.

It is interesting to see that despite the relative modesty of the April price surge when compared to the November/December surge, daily registrations for both instances peaked at roughly the same number: 490 and 472 respectively. That being said the density of the two domain registration surges in the graph show that significantly more domains were registered as Bitcoin approached its all-time high.

Verisign is encouraging comments on their original blog posting, which can be viewed at blogs.verisigninc.com/blog/entry/interest_in_bitcoin_reflected_by. This article was sourced with permission.
