“Time sure flies when you’re working on the next big thing. And it makes it all worthwhile when we see internet users everywhere with their .xyz domain names.

We might only be 4 months young, but .xyz continues to be the most popular and fastest growing new domain extension. According to the latest stats, there are 549,851 .xyz domains registered and 98,883 active .xyz websites.

That means we’re quickly approaching 100,000 ACTIVE .xyz websites!
That’s more than double our nearest competitor, meaning #GenXYZ, you’re leading the pack with creating amazing websites for everyone to enjoy.

As our CEO and Founder Daniel Negari pointed out, the success of a domain extension cannot be measured purely by registration numbers. What’s more important is to look at how the domains are actively being used by real people like you, #GenXYZ. You can read more about this on Daniel’s blog post titled: .xyz is the most used gTLD – Boooooooom!

On a fun sidenote, any guesses on what the 555,555th .xyz registration will be? Here are what some of us at the XYZ headquarters are thinking:

    BestHalloweenCostumes.xyz
    DiaDeMuertos.xyz
    iPhoneTips.xyz
    WorldSeries.xyz
    北京新闻.xyz
555555.xyz (great guess, but this one’s out of the running. It was already taken!)”

.Vlaanderen and .Brussels Available for Companies, Government Departments and Organisations

DNS Belgium, the company behind .BE extension, announced that .Vlaanderen and .Brussels extensions are available for government departments and organisations.

You can read the announcement after the jump :

“In Belgium, companies, government departments and organisations, such as non-profit bodies, will be able to apply for a .vlaanderen or .brussels domain name for their websites and e-mail addresses starting today, Thursday 2 October.

To be able to apply for .vlaanderen or .brussels domain names, the company, organisation or government department must have an office in Belgium. The type of company is of no importance and may be a public limited company (NV/SA), limited liability company (BVBA/SPRL) or a one-person business. Apart from their company names, companies may also use their brand names and trade names in a new domain name ending in .vlaanderen or .brussels.

Benefits of having a .vlaanderen or .brussels domain name

As a Flemish company, government department or organisation, having a relevant .vlaanderen domain name means that a properly produced website with obvious regional content will score more highly in search engines and hence obtain more visitors. The same naturally applies to companies, government bodies and organisations in Brussels that have a .brussels domain name.

By having a .vlaanderen or .brussels extension for their website and e-mail addresses, registrants of these domain names are making a statement about their bond with the local area. Flemish and Brussels brands will be able to place additional emphasis on their origins and identity, as well as on the regional nature of their products or services. An excellent opportunity to boost local trade.

How do you apply?

Registering a .vlaanderen or .brussels domain name takes place in two steps: applying via your registrar and the validation process carried out by the validator. The actual registration of your domain name happens once there has been a positive validation of your application.”

Eurid Releases Report for the Second Quarter of 2014

Eurid, the company behind .EU extension, released the report for the second quarter of 2014. The report shows a growth rate of 4,2 year over year.

“Naturally we are pleased with the Q2 results, particularly as we find ourselves in a downward market, where new gTLDs are launched almost daily,” commented .eu General Manager Marc Van Wesemael. “With Croatia, Romania and Finland showing growth of more than 10%, this is a clear indication that .eu continues to be seen to be a reliable ex¬tension, a label of quality and trustworthiness.”

Also in Q2
While registrations increased, the registry’s carbon emissions decreased in the quarter. After establishing that it had emitted 0.38 kg CO2 –eq per domain name in 2013, EURid elected to compensate for this emission by contributing to a wind turbine construction project in Gujarat, India, and to an agroforestry project in the region of Kaffrine and Fatick, Senegal, that focuses on the production of biodiesel from Jatropha seeds.

Donuts To Hit One Million New gTLD Registrations This Month

Donuts is currently around the 960,000 mark for registrations across all the new gTLDs and is expecting to pass the one million mark later this month.

According to a monthly update, “Donuts has now brought 147 new gTLDs to the public, offering more choice, specificity and meaningfulness to businesses and individuals worldwide.”

Or if you look at statistics provided by nTLDstats.com, there are now 959,243 domains registered across the 151 new gTLDs for which Donuts is providing registry backend services for.

The nTLDstats.com show that Donuts accounts for 38.60 percent of the 2,510,085 domains registered and 36.21 percent of all gTLDs delegated as of 2 October.

On a per day basis, Donuts appears to be adding between 1,500 to 3,500 domains registered with occasional peaks on days when a popular gTLD is launched into General Availability. In September, September Donuts launched seven gTLDs into Sunrise and another 11 into General Availability.

But October will be far quieter with only bring two new gTLDs to General Availability.
