“GNSO Working Group Newcomer Open House Session” Re-Launch

After our first trial year, we are pleased to announce that the Newcomer Open House sessions will continue in 2015 with a number of improvements that are aimed at increasing participation, offering a more flexible agenda and encouraging further interaction during the sessions with the Community hosts and GNSO Policy Staff that are supporting these sessions.
Moving forward the webinars will take place three times per year to avoid over burdening community members and attendees. The sessions will be announced in a new format using a Google RSVP form allowing participants to identify questions and topics beforehand which will allow for tailor made sessions based on attendee requirements and feedback. Participants will be able to select items of interest chosen from three currently available categories:
- Policy Development A-Z
- Communication tools (Adobe Connect room, working group wiki, mailing list, observer/ member status)
- Hot Topics (Specific speakers to be invited for quick briefs).
Each category will contain a number of suggested items of discussion to which attendees can also add their own ideas and suggestions.
Of course, even though the open house sessions are specifically intended for newcomers, anyone interested in brushing up their knowledge or looking for an opportunity to engage with others interested in GNSO policy development activities are welcome.
We look forward to your participation in the upcoming sessions scheduled for:
12 March 2015,
04 June 2015,
24 September 2015

2 March 2015
The reported security issue in the New gTLD Applicant and GDD portals, as described in yesterday’s announcement below, has been addressed. The portals are now back online. An investigation to determine whether any data was exposed to an unauthorized user is ongoing.

Announcement: New gTLD Applicant and GDD Portal Update
1 March 2015
ICANN temporarily took its New gTLD Applicant and GDD portals offline on 27 February 2015 to investigate a reported security issue. Access to, and data in, these portals is limited to New gTLD Program applicants and New gTLD registry operators. Under certain circumstances an authenticated portal user could potentially view data of, or related to, other users.
There is currently no indication that this issue resulted in any actual exposure of data to an unauthorized party. There is also no indication that anyone other than those authorized to access the portal did so.
We are working to implement a solution to the reported issue and bring the portals back online. We are also continuing to investigate whether any data was exposed to an unauthorized user.
As more information becomes available we will report on our findings and publish updates at www.icann.org/news and http://newgtlds.icann.org/en/announcements-and-media/latest.

Porn and .Adult Domain Names Now Available To Trademark Holders
ICM Registry, the company behind .XXX domain extension, announced that as of yesterday, .Porn and .Adult are available for registration to trademark holders.
You can read the press release after the jump :
“ICM Registry, the registry operator for the .XXX top-level domain (TLD) announces today .PORN and .ADULT are now available for the next thirty days to trademark holders who are registered in the Trademark Clearinghouse (TMCH).
Domain Names are available on a first come, first serve basis to those with validated marks in the TMCH. During this period the cost of registrations will be standard registration fees, and there will be no additional sunrise application fees; moreover, ICM Registry and the TMCH worked together to reduce the TMCH’s normal registration fees. Trademark holders looking to secure their marks in .PORN and .ADULT can contact their registrar to find out how to participate.
“Porn is one of the most searched for terms on the internet. The launch of .PORN and .ADULT brings exciting opportunities for webmasters and brand creators,” said Stuart Lawley, chairman and CEO of ICM Registry. “Securing brand identity in .PORN and .ADULT is essential as these domains will achieve significant visibility. Participating in the TMCH Sunrise period is the first opportunity to achieve that brand consistency in these new TLDs.”
After the TMCH Sunrise period has closed, the next phase of the .PORN and .ADULT launch will be a Sunrise B period for .XXX Sunrise B applicants; this will be open from April 6 – 30. This period gives trademark owners who participated in the .XXX Sunrise B Program a priority option to register those matching marks in .PORN and .ADULT, before they become generally available.
Following these trademark-focused launch periods will be the Domain Matching Program from May 6 – 31. The Domain Matching Program allows .XXX registrants to register available, directly matching second level names in .PORN or .ADULT. To participate in the .PORN and .ADULT Domain Matching Program, a .XXX name must be registered by April 30.
General Availability for .PORN and .ADULT will begin on June 4.
Brands and trademark owners can check the status of their marks in .XXX, .PORN, and .ADULT, as well as all new gTLDs, by visiting ICM Registry’s Domain Check Tool.
For more information on ICM Registry’s .PORN and .ADULT TLDs, check out the launch information and free webinars available at: http://www.icmregistry.com/webinar/.”
ICANN : Release of Country and Territory Names within the .EMERCK, .HAMBURG and .BERLIN TLDs
Currently, .EMERCK, .HAMBURG and .BERLIN Registry Agreements require country and territory names contained in specific internationally recognized lists to be withheld from registration or allocated to the registry operator at all levels.
As required by the RSEP, ICANN has undertaken a preliminary determination on whether these RSEP proposals might raise significant competition, security or stability issues. ICANN’s preliminary review (based on the information provided) did not identify any such issues.
Following ICANN’s preliminary determination that the proposals do not raise significant competition, security or stability issues, it was further determined that the change would require a material change to the respective Registry Agreements and that an amendment is needed in order to effect the change.
The proposed amendments, which are being posted for comment, would allow the registration of country and territory names at all levels in .EMERCK, .HAMBURG and .BERLIN TLDs. It should be noted that as of 13 November 2014, Specification 13 is granted for .EMERCK, whereas Registry Agreements for .HAMBURG and .BERLIN do not include Specification 13 provisions in place and these two TLDs are Geo TLDs.
