“The .be zone reached the milestone of 1,500,000 domain names on Friday 13 February. We wanted to meet the registrant behind the domain name that helped us get there.
The domain name in question, plameco-brugge.be, is registered to Patrick and Jonas Detekelaere, owners of ABIS bvba (All Building Installations & Services). We congratulated them with flowers and asked them some questions.
DNS Belgium: Could you start by telling us more about your company? What is its core business? How long have you been active?
Patrick Deketelaere: We place stretch ceilings. The ABIS company was created especially to distribute Plameco, which is a registered trademark of stretch ceilings. We are the franchise holders for the region Maldegem, Aalter, Ostend, and Knokke. Each region is reserved to a certain franchise holder, which means there’s no overlap.
Specifically, it’s a type of stretch ceiling made from high-end woven synthetic fabric that offers quite a lot of possibilities to incorporate audio and light, for instance, and to optimize the acoustics of a room. Most ceilings can be placed in 1 day, without the need to move the furniture. Even ceilings with a photo print are possible.
Plameco was established in 1982, and we have been franchise holder since 2012. ABIS bvba is part of our ‘Groep Deketelaere’, which offers a whole range of other services. Our target audience at the moment is 80% private individuals, but we hope to expand further into the business market.
DNS Belgium: The domain name which you registered is plameco-brugge.be. Why did you specifically add the word ‘Brugge’ to the domain name? Was this a deliberate choice to focus on the local market, or was it intended to show the origin of the company?
Patrick Deketelaere: We aim to provide a specific domain name for all the big cities in our region. This creates a portal through which potential customers around that city can contact us. On top of this, it’s a easily recognizable and memorable domain name. We also chose this domain name in order to score higher in local searches for our products.
At the moment we already use the domain name brugge.plameco.be, which we host at the franchise provider, Plameco Nederland. We would like to manage our own domain name.
DNS Belgium: Was this the first domain name you registered yourself?
Patrick Deketelaere: No, in the past I already registered other domain names via Telenet, for instance www.hydropress.be, which we use for our pumping company. That is where I learned about DNS Belgium as the company that manages the .be domain names. With Groep Deketelaere we have registered quite a lot of domain names so far. Our main website, groepdeketelaere.be, will get a complete make-over very soon!”

WordPress Wins WordrPress.org Domain Name in Arbitration
WordPress won another UDRP case seeking to obtain the transfer of WordrPress.org. The company submitted the complaint with the National Arbitration Forum on February 3, 2015.
WordPress owns many trademark registrations for the “WordPress” mark all over the world. Therefore,it is more than obvious that the disputed domain name is confusingly similar to its trademark. Moreover, the company managed to demonstrate that the respondent has no rights or legitimate interest in the disputed domain name and that the respondent used the domain name in bad faith .
The arbitrator assigned to the case ruled in favor of WordPress, indicating that the company has full rights to the disputed domain name .The respondent’s loss was also partly due to the fact that he failed to submit a response in this proceeding ,accepting these way WordPress’s allegations as fact .

Donuts Brings “Freedom Of Choice” To Small Business With New gTLDs
Donuts has launched a promotional campaign in the United States aimed at small business owners with the goal to sell them domain names in new gTLDs, particularly the new gTLDs it operates. The promotional campaign uses the hit Devo song “Freedom of Choice”.
The campaign was flagged in an interview with Donuts co-founder and Executive Vice President Dan Schindler back in November.
Schindler said that Donuts was focussing on a number of activities including in 2015 boosting the profile even further of the new gTLDs past the early adopters with a massive marketing programme.
“Freedom of Choice” is the first advertising campaign led by Donuts Inc., the largest registry of meaningful not-com options such as .COFFEE, .FLORIST and .PHOTOGRAPHY, and is designed to be a driving force in the “not-com revolution.” These new not-com choices give companies and entrepreneurs the ability to create a more memorable, customizable and personal website name – one that is truly reflective of their businesses.
“This is an exciting time in Internet naming because for the first time since the launch of dot-coms 30 years ago, there are now hundreds of new options – meaningful domain extensions like .FITNESS, .GURU and .PIZZA,” said Donuts Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Davidoff. “Our new campaign is first and foremost about category awareness. Choice, variety and specialization in Internet naming are the new normal, and it’s our mission to let the world know that there is a better way to name.”
The campaign features both a video spot in three different lengths (:15, :30 and :54) and banner ads and is running on digital platforms in the United States only. The spots will appear on a variety of lifestyle and business websites including YouTube, The New York Times, Forbes, Mashable and Fast Company.
“As the number of registered website names has soared to more than 225 million names globally, and with more than 500,000 businesses launching every month in the United States alone, the ‘namespace’ on the Internet needed to expand,” said Davidoff. “These not-com options have created a groundswell of support for a ‘not-com revolution’ because they are more descriptive, memorable and available than today’s dot-com options.”
The campaign was created by Walton Isaacson. Media planning, buying and placement is being handled by MediaStorm.
“Donuts is empowering brands and people, and giving them the ability to be both creative and authentic with their domain names,” said Aaron Walton, co-founder and partner at Walton Isaacson. “I believe that Donuts will fuel the next generation of ideas and excitement on the Internet. It’s a reflection of the future and how we will connect with the brands that we love.”
