General Availability for .Pharmacy Domains Starts June 3,2015
The Natinoal Association of Boards of Pharmacy announced recently that the general avilability for the .Pharmacy domain name will start June 3,2015.
You can read the press release after the jump :
“The National Association of Boards of Pharmacy® (NABP®) is pleased to announce that general availability for the .pharmacy domain begins June 3, 2015. At this time, all pharmacies and pharmacy-related entities may apply for .pharmacy domain names.
The .pharmacy Top-Level Domain (TLD) was launched in 2014, and NABP has approved more than 300 .pharmacy domain names applied for or requested during prior limited registration periods. NABP created the .pharmacy TLD to provide consumers worldwide with a means to clearly identify safe and legal online pharmacies and related resources.
Applications for the final limited registration period for all dispensing pharmacies are currently being evaluated and approved applicants were eligible to register their domain names as early as May 1.
Except for those already accredited through the Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites® (VIPPS®), Veterinary-Verified Internet Pharmacy Practice Sites® (Vet-VIPPS®) Programs, or approved by the NABP e-Advertiser Approval Program, entities seeking a .pharmacy domain name must first submit an application, supporting documentation, and an application fee to NABP. NABP will evaluate these materials to ensure compliance with program standards. As part of the application process, the content of the proposed website must be available for review by NABP either on an existing website or a staging site. NABP is establishing a network of international regulatory groups to facilitate evaluation of domain name applications from countries worldwide. Once approved, applicants may register the domain names through one of NABP’s participating registrars.
NABP has reviewed nearly 11,000 websites that sell prescription medication online and found that 96% do not follow pharmacy laws and standards established to protect the public health. This finding illustrates the need for the .pharmacy TLD. NABP will grant use of the .pharmacy domain only to legitimate website operators that adhere to pharmacy laws in the jurisdictions in which “
Stockholm District Court Suspends Pirrate Bay’s .SE Domain
The Stockholkm District Court ordered a few days ago the Pirate Bay’s .SE domain names to be transfered to the Swedish State.
The Stockholm District Court made this decision arguing that these domain names were all linked to copyright crimes. However, Pirate Bay was prepared for this outcome and managed to redirect it visitors to other domain names.
Since the Stockholm District Court ordered the Pirate Bay’s .SE domain names to be transferred over to the Swedish State, the site is accessible through the .GD, .MN, .VG, .AM and .LA domain extensions.
Moreover, the Pirate Bay said that they have many other domain names prepared in case something will happen with the new ones.
China Tightens Control on New Domain Extension
China announced that it will place strict control on the domain name market.By now, only eight domestic companies and 14 new TLDs were approved.
You can read the press release after the jump :
“China is the nation with largest online population and significant buying power which is expected to provide a large crowd of buyers for new domain name extensions such as .app, .auto or .camera. However the country is placing strict control in the market place. In light of the issue, Brandma.Co’s representatives will be participating in the upcoming ICANN meetings to be held from June 21-25 in Argentina to interact with interested registries and registrars.
The Chinese Government has launched a new round of “stern supervision and control policies to domain name registration administrations (registries) and domain registration service agencies (registrars) at home and abroad to strengthen domestic Internet safety.” The 6-month special action, starting April this year, was publicly announced on the website of country’s top Internet / Media bureau, Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC). Registrars in China have all been notified and have started to voluntarily remove the domain name extensions that were not approved by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).
It was the Government’s first attempt to declare its authority on any top-level domains’ (or TLDs’) right to do business in China. By far only 8 domestic companies and 14 TLDs were approved, including .TOP, .WANG, .CITIC and a few other Chinese-script TLDs. Popular extensions like .COM, .ORG or country codes like .CO or .ME were being asked to comply with the MIIT license requirement as well.
Mr. Ching Chiao, CEO of Brandma.Co, advises that TLD registration operators should act immediately and develop feasible strategies on how they want to engage with the Chinese market in the new dynamics. “Do you have an MIIT license? This is the most frequently-asked question from the Chinese registrars to a new TLD operator these days,” said Mr. Chiao. “The Chinese government has concluded their wait-and-see period and is now taking a proactive approach. They want to know who is at their front door selling before things get too complicated.”
Ms. Cathy Peng, Brandma’s New gTLD expert, said: “Getting the license requires understanding on how the regulatory system works and how one should respond as it evolves. It’s also like a mini ICANN application process, but this time in Mandarin.”
