The Coordination Center for TLD RU ,has recently celebrated its 18th birthday.There are 3,756,162 .RU domain names so far,making .RU the fifth largest country-code TLD.

“On April 7, 2012, Russian national domain .RU has celebrated its 18th birthday. Up to this date, .RU boasts a solid 3,756,162 domain names, being the fifth-largest country-code TLD. Other world’s largest domains include .DE (Germany), .UK (United Kingdom), .TK (Tokelau), and .NL (Netherlands).

In a year, .RU has demonstrated 15% growth, meaning about half million new domain names in terms of numbers. Having celebrated its 3,500,000 domain names in Autumn 2011, .RU is expected to make it to the 4,000,000 mark in Autumn 2012.

Domain statistics is an efficient way to see how a TLD is actually used. In .RU, 91 percent of the domain names has been delegated, with 59% of domain names pointing out to the corresponding websites. In May 2011, there were 52 percent of delegated domains, with 7% growth in last 10 months.

The number of new registrations has taken a rise as well, with 351,165 domains in 1st quarter of 2011 compared to 422,772 new registrations in the first three months of 2012, showing a 20 percent growth rate.
