“Washington-based online marketing firm THC Media Group has announced the availability of a large collection of geographic domain names for entrepreneurs who are gearing up for the legal cannabis industry in Washington and Colorado. These geographic domain names are listed by city and state at THCdomains.com.
The website reads, “For many cities in Washington and Colorado, we own all of the relevant keyword variations involving ‘marijuana’ and ‘cannabis.’ By controlling all of the domains for your city, you can feel secure that your competition will not encroach on your brand.” For entrepreneurs who are not ready to invest in the purchase of a domain, or start-ups who are in the process of seeking funding, THC Domains also offers the option of reserving domain names for a particular city or region for up to 4 months. This process involves a down payment (which varies by city) in exchange for a contract stating that the domains will not be sold or leased to anyone other than the reservee until a specified date.
Noel Abbott, the company’s founder and CEO, was interviewed by Michael Cyger of DomainSherpa.com in August about his company’s collection of domain names. Since then, THC Media Group has continued to expand their inventory and build relationships with domain collectors who have partnered with the company to broker sales and auctions of their domains. Abbott says, “A lot of people ask me to appraise their collections, but it’s hard to put a value on cannabis domain names due to the uncertain future of the industry. However, with the federal government’s recent announcement that they won’t challenge the initiatives in Washington and Colorado or the medical cannabis laws in other states, I think there’s a growing trend of optimism. If the industry does take off and other states start legalizing cannabis, these domains are going to be a very valuable commodity. Investors who are snatching them up now while they’re cheap are doing the smart thing.”
In addition to the recently-announced geographic domains for cities in Washington and Colorado, THC Domains offers a growing selection of keyword-specific and brand-name domains pertaining to the cannabis industry. THC Media Group also provides online marketing services for cannabis start-ups in the recreational and medical industries, ranging from website and brand development, to search engine marketing, to email and social media marketing. The company was founded in 2013 and is based in Bellingham, Washington.”

ShopOnline.com Domain Name Now Up For Sale
According to a press release this morning ,ShopOnline.com domain name is currently for sale by its current owner Michael J H Etheridge .
You can read the press release after the jump :
“New owner could realize unlimited income potential from best available retail branding asset in the world.
Generic domain sales and development specialists Domainwise.com have put on the market for sale the flagship domain ShopOnline.com.
This simple, meaningful, and search-centric global shopping brand is comparable to Shop.com and Shopping.com, both billion-dollar businesses, say Domainwise. A new owner with the right vision and motivation can certainly build a billion-dollar enterprise on ShopOnline.com as well.
Entrepreneurs know that having the right domain name can make the difference between success or failure online. Names that are short, easy-to-remember, and relevant can have a big impact on traffic and company branding. But the lack of quality generic domains creates a challenge to successful branding today. As a result, marketing companies have had to resort to choosing what they considered to be catchy but meaningless names — such as Amazon.com, eBay or Zappos — that they then had to spend millions of dollars to promote. The sudden availability of ShopOnline.com now presents an obvious natural branding opportunity and would be the perfect domain for a worldwide social shopping porta
The domain is also search-engine friendly and could easily contribute to landing a top spot in consumers’ online searches. A Google search for the terms “shop” and “online” currently returned 1.7 billion combined results, implying that once the domain goes active it could become a pre-built brand that advertises itself organically.
With e-commerce sales in the U.S. alone totaling US$289 billion in 2012 and projected to reach US$361.9 billion in 2016, ShopOnline.com has tremendous and obvious relevance to consumers. It provides the one element vital to the success of all direct marketing: a relevant and memorable call to action. Like the best 800 numbers, the best domain names tell the prospect in an easy-to-remember way what to do next, where to go for information, or when to place an order — which, of course, is right now.
ShopOnline.com expresses the 1-800-style “I WANT” behavior the consumer is speaking, thinking or even typing. Besides the revenue potential of building out.
ShopOnline.com as a retail e-commerce destination in its own right, the name offers the prospect of unlimited lease or partnership revenue from sub-domain prefixes. Any retailer could easily use their own name as a ShopOnline.com sub-domain to extend the reach and impact of their own marketing campaigns. Imagine Harrods.ShopOnline.com, Nordstrom.ShopOline.com, Macys.ShopOnline.com — all your favorite stores, all in one place, with one-click ordering across different merchants.
ShopOnline.com would also be conducive to a mobile app, allowing the domain’s new owner to participate in online retailing’s fast-growing mobile segment.
According to new research from Verdict Retail, online shopping will be worth £50bn a year by 2018, when one pound in every seven spent on retail will be made online. That means ecommerce growth of almost 50%.
So, how can you best profit from developing online retail’s best available shopping domain?
Enquirers, please register your interest at ShopOnline.com.”
Registrations Of “Shutdown” Domains Jump Following US Government Shutdown
Following the shutdown of the US government, the number of domain names registered using the string of “shutdown” have jumped. From 30 September to 10 October there have been 141 .com and .net domains registered that include the string and a total of 155 since 18 August.
Using Verisign’s DomainView-Grapher (a beta tool available from Verisign Labs that allows users to check for registrations of strings in .com and .net domains), the company examined the number of domains registered over the last three months containing the string “shutdown.”
As Verisign observed it’s clear from the data that interest in shutdown related domain names spiked considerably on the eve of the government shutdown and has stayed relatively high since then. Which is similar to any major event, good or bad. There is always someone wanting to take advantage of it!
