fTLD Registry Selects Symantec as Verification Agent For .BANK
Verifying that domains registered in new gTLDs such as .bank and .insurance are genuine and not some sort of scam, and to gain the trust of potential registrants and internet users, is an issue to overcome for such gTLDs. For .bank and the pending .insurance, to be operated by fTLD Registry Services, the job has been given to Symantec Corporation.
In this role, Symantec will add a layer of protection to the new domains by verifying the eligibility of companies requesting domain names, making sure the person requesting the domain name is authorized by the company and ensuring the name requested by the company complies with fTLD’s policies.
“The cornerstone of consumer trust in ‘.bank’ and ‘.insurance’ is ensuring that only verified members of the banking and insurance communities are permitted to register domain names,” said Craig Schwartz, managing director of fTLD. “Symantec is the market leader in verifying the authenticity of organisations and we are confident in their ability to uphold our strict standards.”
fTLD announced they selected Symantec following a public request for proposals process in April 2014. Symantec is an information protection expert that helps people, businesses and governments seeking the freedom to unlock the opportunities technology brings – anytime, anywhere.
fTLD is owned, operated and governed by members of the global banking and insurance communities. For more information, see ftld.com.

Parker Waichman LLP Announced That It Has Been Granted Transfer of the Domain YourLawyerFL.com
Parker Waichman LLP announced recently that it has been granted the transfer of the domain name YourLawyerFL.com.
You can read the presss release after the jump :
” Parker Waichman LLP, a national law firm long dedicated to protecting the rights of victims who have been injured by medications, medical devices, and consumer products, announces that a Notice of Decision of the National Arbitration Forum was reached on November 30, 2014, in Parker Waichman LLP v N/A (FA1410001584806).
Parker Waichman LLP learned that a domain name was in use by another law firm and that the name being used was significantly similar to one of its trademarked and domain names. Parker Waichman requested a transfer of the domain name, yourlawyerfl.com, from the other law firm, asserting Parker Waichman’s trademark rights in YourLawyer and YourLawyer.com.
The National Arbitration Forum arbitrated the Uniform Domain Name Dispute Resolution Policy (UDRP) action under which trademark-based domain name disputes are typically resolved by agreement, court action, or arbitration prior to a registrar canceling, suspending, or transferring a domain name.
Parker Waichman LLP’s allegations included that, yourlawyerfl.com is “confusingly similar to its trademarks,” YourLawyer and YourLawyer.com; the Respondent in this case does not have rights or legitimate interests in this domain name; and the Respondent registered and used the disputed domain name of yourlawyerfl.com in bad faith.
In this action, Parker Waichman LLP prevailed and the domain name—yourlawyerfl.com—was ordered transferred. The Panel was satisfied that Parker Waichman LLP established all three aspects under the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) policy and concluded that relief is granted and ordered that the yourlawyerfl.com domain name be transferred to Parker Waichman LLP. Debrett Gordon Lyons, Esquire, was the Arbitrator; the panelists were the Honorable Richard D. Rosenbloom, Judge (retired); the Honorable John Upchurch, Judge (retired); and Debrett G. Lyons.”

Background:
The NomCom is an independent committee tasked with selecting eight members of the Board of Directors and other key positions within ICANN ‘s structure.
It is designed to function independently from the ICANN Board, Supporting Organizations, and Advisory Committees. NomCom members act only on behalf of the interests of the global Internet community and within the scope of the ICANN mission and responsibilities assigned to it by the ICANN Bylaws.
NomCom members contribute understanding of the broad interests of the Internet community as a whole, and knowledge and experience of specific Internet constituencies who have appointed them.
The challenge for the NomCom is to integrate these perspectives and derive consensus in its selections. Although appointed by Supporting Organizations and other ICANN bodies, individual NomCom members are not accountable to their appointing bodies.
NomCom members are accountable for adherence to the ICANN Bylaws and for compliance with the rules and procedures established by the NomCom.
