ICANN’s Donation Gives a New Boost to Internet Supervising Organizations
ICANN has made public through the voice of its CEO, Mr. Fadi Chehade, a new donation of $50.000 to the internet organizations that watch for its good operation.
This action came as part of ICANN’s commitment to take part to the strengthening of the Internet operational system and it will grant these organizations the possibility to devote to the expansion of the community regarding the major policy problems that affect good Internet processes.
After its establishment by the United Nations in 2006, they came a few of the main associations that play a major role in addressing Internet issues and ICANN will continue to support them both logistically and financially, according to their press release.
ICANN To Evaluate Websites Access Possibilities
An announcement from ICANN has informed recently about their search for a provider who will have to make an evaluation about website access possibilities following the rules concerning W3C Web Content.
This assessment will have to identify which are the most efficient tools and strategy to implement in order to obtain clear insight on ICANN’s performance regarding web accessibility and to realize what the necessary actions are to reach improvement.
Another goal will be to test and enable an approach which will allow disabled people to take part in their evaluation activities after a year from the date of implementing the improvements. This will be included in a survey which will be done by a team who will review the implications of ICAN on Internet policies.
Eventually it will also lead to a set of recommendations for actions needed in order to remedy the faulty areas and will be shaped as a roadmap for any initiatives that are required in this direction.
ICANN Partners With Chinese Data Center Against Cyber Attacks
ICANN and Chinese Internet research center ZDNS’s recent collaboration led to the installation of a new L-Root service which is supposed to increase the network’s resistance against various sorts of attacks (such as DDoS).
This was possible by the Chinese counterpart offering the logistic part while ICANN provided the technology necessary to implement the L-root instance. According to the director of ZDNS, what is expected eventually is a greater performance of the Chinese Internet services and a much more improved framework.
At the same time, this should lead to a better enhanced security and a faster reaction time for Internet queries, after other collaborations with Chinese partners to instal L-Root instances (there are currently thirteen of them in China).
Computers usually transmit information by using addresses under the form of numbers, whereas people prefer using names. It is considered that there will be a greater efficiency to spread the root information in a geographic way and to duplicate the servers, so this is why ICANN will get involved more in the future to increase overall security.
IRP Recommendation Leads to Auctions Being Delayed
The auctions due to be held by ICANN are about to be postponed, according to a press release. There are three strings waiting for approval, namely .LLC, LLP and .INC and it has been decided this way after the receipt of a recommendation from the Emergency Panelist.
A notification was sent to each of the applicants informing them about this decision and a result is expected from the IRP analysis. According to ICANN, they chose to apply the suggestion even if it was not mandatory, until a final decision is taken.
ICANN reaffirms their full implication into the accountability process and vows that all of their practices will remain transparent. According to them, they will stick to these important ideas because they consider them the only way to ensure the effectiveness of the stakeholder they promote.
