Torrentz.eu Returns to the Web, a Day After its Domain Name was Revoked
Torrentz.eu website is back online, a day after its domain was revoked by registrar Nazwa. The website was suspended a couple of days ago, following a request from the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit in the United Kingdom.
The website’s legal team contacted the registrar and explained that the letter sent by the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit was unlawful. It seems that the registrar has no obligation to suspend a domain name based only on letter or orders given by a third party, unless these letter/orders are backed by a court order.
The website was back online just hours after the domain name suspension.
The UK Police and copyright holders have been working together over the past few months in order to shut down websites that provide links to pirated content.Over 2,500 domain names linked to counterfeit material have been suspended thus far.
