The parodies all use the same climactic scene where, as the New York Times reported in 2008, “we’re in a bunker, and the enemies are always, always closing in. The ceilings are low. The air is stifling. A dishevelled leader is delusional.” In the scene, Hitler is railing against his enemies and reluctantly facing defeat.
The parodies, many of which are on YouTube, “see the Hitler figure erupt in frustration over his Xbox. He flips out because his friends aren’t going to Burning Man. And, recently [2008 again], he loses it because Sarah Palin isn’t working out as a running mate. Something in the spectacle of an autocrat falling to pieces evidently has widespread appeal.”
But now ICANN has joined the growing list with the technical issues afflicting the TLD application system software, or TAS, with English subtitles added telling of Hitler’s frustrations when he finds the TAS is shut down.
