According to the latest progress report from Eurid,the company behind .EU domain,registrations of .EU domains continue to grow strongly with an increase of 7,4% year over year .

The growth rate is consistent with the second quarter’s 7.6 percent result .

The highest annual growth in the third quarter of 2012 was in Malta : 35% rise in .EU domain registrations compared with the same quarter of 2011.Malta was followed by Slovakia,with a 22% growth and Austria with a 21 percent growth .

“.eu registrations have risen steadily during 2012, with the Q3 results supporting our sustainable growth targets.During tough economic times, doing business online becomes ever more attractive. I see .eu’s growth as evidence of this trend across Europe,” said EURid’s General Manager, Marc Van Wesemael.

64 249 .EU domain names have been registered in the third quarter of 2012 and the total number of .eu domains registered at the end of Q3 show an increase of 251,799 .EU domains when compared with the same period of 2011.

Moreover,after Eurid started allowing registrations for more than one year,4,915 opted for registrations with a longer registration period .
