Coordination Center For TLD RU/РФ : The number of Domain Violators Decreased in 2014

According to the Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ , the number of domain name violators decreased in 2014.

“In December 2014 accredited registrars received 129 requests from Group-IB to suspend delegation of domain violators. As a result 75 domain names were suspended. 54 domain names are being delegated at the moment. 28 from them were unblocked because the owners of the domain names addressed the causes of blocking. The unblocking was conducted at the request of CERT-GIB. 24 domain names were not blocked because the owners of the domain names rapidly addressed the causes of blocking. There was no response from the registrars concerning 2 domain names.

The largest share of the discovered domain violators distributed malware (77%), the smallest – botnet controllers (2%).

Altogether for the 12 months of 2014 registrars received 1397 requests from Group-IB. 1160 domain names were suspended from delegation during the year which is 83% of the total amount. 153 domains (or 11%) were unblocked by request of CERT-GIB. In 74 cases (5%) the domains were not suspended from delegation because users rapidly eliminated the causes of the blocking. In less than 1% of the cases (requests concerning 10 domain names) the registrar didn’t react at all.

The largest share of the discovered domain violators in 2014 distributed malware (60%), the smallest – botnet controllers (11%).
