.РФ – An Example for IDN Domain Names in Asia Pacific

Russia’s Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ and other representatives of national registries from 13 Asian Pacific met in Oman, on May 11-13,2014 .

The Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ is a member of the Asia Pacific Top Level Domain Association (APTLD) since 2010. In 2012, APTLD’s meeting was held in Moscow, with the Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ being the host of this major event.

This year, representatives of many leading international organizations and global corporations,including Microsoft and Google, attended the meeting. One of the subjects debated at the meeting was the emergence of IDNs and their role and place among the world’s top-level domain names.

Andrei Kolesnikov, director of the Coordination Center for TLD RU/РФ talked about the future of IDN domain names and used the example of the Cyrillic domain name .РФ. Kolesnikov revealed some marketing techniques that have been used to promote .РФ domain name and shared his experience of developing a Russian-language domain.
