“Sedo, the world’s largest domain marketplace and monetization provider, today announced its 2013 list of the highest-valued public domain sales of the year. Leading the list is Jobs.ca, which closed just days ago at $450,000, stealing the top honors from Body.com at $380,000. Another notable name in the top ten is Sandwich.com, one of the names sold as part of Yahoo’s auction of more than 100 domain names in late November, which sold for $137,500.
“Despite the looming changes to the domain industry, the top ten list shows that it has been an incredibly successful year for .com, and the appearance of Jobs.ca on the top sales list points to the fact that non-.com TLDs are selling at high values as well”
The complete list of top domain sales includes:
jobs.ca $450,000 USD
body.com $380,000 USD
yinhang.com $300,000 USD
dji.com $300,000 USD
moms.com $252,000 USD
apuestas.com $165,000 EUR
moneta.com $150,000 USD
elend.com $140,000 USD
sandwich.com $137,500 USD
partners.com $125,000 USD
Historically, .com names have accounted for most spots on annual sales lists – a trend that continued in 2013 with the exception of Jobs.ca ranking as this year’s highest valued sale. As ICANN, the Internet’s governing body, manages its historic rollout of hundreds of new domain extensions in 2014, the inclusion of non-.com extensions in top annual sales lists could likely continue.
“Despite the looming changes to the domain industry, the top ten list shows that it has been an incredibly successful year for .com, and the appearance of Jobs.ca on the top sales list points to the fact that non-.com TLDs are selling at high values as well,” said Tobias Flaitz, CEO at Sedo. “.Com names are clearly still valuable and making big sales, and next year it will be exciting to see if we will have a wider array of domain extensions in the top sales list as consumers and businesses open up to the idea of new domain endings such as .shop, .web and many more.”
