Eurid releases Q4 2011 Report

Eurid,the company behind .EU domain name,has recently released its Q4 2011 report.The report reveals that on average,81.6% of registered .eu domains were renewed in 2011 .

“On average, 81.6% of registered .eu domain names were renewed in 2011, according to the latest quarterly progress report from the .eu top-level domain registry, EURid. .eu has maintained a renewal rate of over 80% for the past five years.

“I am pleased to see the extent of .eu consumer loyalty. The strong renewal rate for 2011 shows that end-users have a sustained interest in renewing their .eu domain names,” said EURid’s General Manager, Marc Van Wesemael.

.eu registrations grew by 3.0% in Q4 2011 which was the strongest growth since Q1 2010. Registrations increased in 23 of the 27 EU nations and the strongest growth was in Malta (8.6%), Austria (7.2%) and France (6.6%) during the fourth quarter.

.eu completed Q4 2011 with 3.51 million registered .eu domain names, an increase of 5.5% compared with Q4 2010. Annual growth of over 10% was recorded in 11 European Union countries, namely Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Greece, Hungary, Lithuania, Poland, Romania and Slovakia.

Website usage

EURid published a .eu Insights report about website usage patterns which showed that different top-level domains have clearly different profiles. Of the websites assessed, 26.5% were used for business purposes and .eu, with 31.4%, had an above average business usage.

Domain name security

EURid simplified domain name security for .eu accredited registrars with the new .eu DNSSEC Signing Service. This service automatically signs .eu domain names and maintains re-signing and key rollovers, removing much of the complexity and administrative work often associated with implementing the Domain Name System Security Extensions (DNSSEC) protocol.
