Sunrise Period for شبكة. Ends With Very Few Registrations

According to dotShabaka Registry, the Sunrise period for  شبكة., which means .WEB in Arabic was not a success. The company said that there were very few registrations in the 60-day Sunrise period.

According to Domainincite.com, the failure was largely due to poor promotion of the Trademark Clearinghouse in Arabic-speaking regions.

Here is what dtShabaka Registry said in a statement:

“We always knew – with the convoluted process for registration and lack of information out to the MENA [Middle-East/ North Africa] region on the Trademark Clearinghouse – that this was going to be a quiet time for us. We have seen very few applications through the Sunrise period.

We know that the managers of the TMCH and ICANN are working hard to promote the TMCH. However, as a pioneer we have unfortunately not enjoyed the fruits of this labour. At the same time it should be noted that we have been buoyed by the level of interest from trademark holders and businesses in the region and expect this interest to translate into registrations once we move into Landrush and are free of the TMCH sunrise eligibility requirements.”

Yahoo Gets Their Hands on Yahoo-EG.com Domain Name

Yahoo won the UDRP case it brought seeking transfer of the domain name Yahoo-EG.com. The company submitted the complaint with the National Arbitration Forum on October 20,2013.

Yahoo owns many trademark registrations for the “Yahoo” mark all over the world. Therefore,it is more than obvious that the disputed domain name is confusingly similar to its trademark. Moreover, the company managed to demonstrate that the respondent has no rights or legitimate interest in the disputed domain name and that the respondent used the domain name in bad faith .

The arbitrator assigned to the case ruled in favor of Yahoo, indicating that the company has full rights to the disputed domain name .The respondent’s loss was also partly due to the fact that he failed to submit a response in this proceeding ,accepting these way Yahoo’s allegations as fact .
